Activate the App Embed and App Block

The limit message on your product page comes from a theme app embed or app block. Here is how to turn each on, and which one you need.

Short answer

Open your theme editor, click the app embeds icon in the left sidebar, toggle on the Prime MOQ embeds and save. That puts the limit message on your product page and cart. The app block is an optional alternative for placing the message in one exact spot inside a section.

  • Most stores only need the app embed. It is a toggle and requires no layout decisions.
  • The app block is for placing the message in an exact position your theme's default layout does not offer.
  • Both need an Online Store 2.0 theme. A legacy theme shows an empty or missing app embeds panel.
  • The embed only controls the warning message. Checkout enforcement runs whether it is on or off.

Before you start

  • An Online Store 2.0 theme
  • Prime MOQ installed on the store

Two storefront pieces, one job

Prime MOQ's conditions take effect at checkout on their own. The shopper-facing limit message on the product page needs one of these two pieces turned on in your theme editor, not in your Shopify admin.

Most stores only need the app embed. It is automatic and requires no layout decisions. The app block exists for merchants who want the message in an exact spot the default layout does not offer.

Enable the app embed

Open the theme editor. From Settings > Message position, click Edit theme. You can also go there manually through Online Store > Themes > Customize on your active theme.

Open App embeds. In the theme editor's left sidebar, click the plug icon to open App embeds and find the Prime MOQ entries.

Toggle on and save. Enable the embeds you want and click Save. The Dashboard's setup checklist detects this on its own and marks the step done, so there is no need to come back to the app.

Add the app block instead

Open the template you want. In the theme editor, navigate to the Product template, or the Cart template for the cart version.

Add the block. Click Add block in the section where the message should appear and choose Prime's message block from the Apps group.

Position and save. Drag the block to the exact position you want inside the section, then click Save.

Which themes are supported

Both pieces use Shopify's Online Store 2.0 theme architecture. Any current Shopify theme supports this out of the box, including Dawn and its derivatives and effectively every theme published since 2021.

Legacy pre-2.0 themes do not support app embeds or app blocks at all. If your App embeds panel is empty or missing, the theme most likely needs upgrading first. Shopify's own theme store flags this during an upgrade.

Frequently asked questions

My rule is active but nothing shows on the product page. Why?

This is almost always the app embed not being enabled yet, rather than a problem with the rule. Check the theme editor's App embeds panel before you start editing the rule itself.

Do I need the app embed for rules to work?

No. The app embed only controls the warning message shoppers see before checkout. Enforcement is a Shopify Function that runs regardless. Leaving the embed off means blocked customers get no explanation earlier in the flow, which is why it is worth turning on.

Can I use the app embed and the app block at the same time?

You can, but the message may then appear twice on the same page. Use one or the other for a given location.

The message shows but the colours look wrong. Where do I change them?

On the Design page inside Prime MOQ, not in the theme editor. Design controls one global style shared by every rule's message, so the background colour, text colour, font and warning icon all live there rather than in your theme.

My App embeds panel is empty. What now?

Your theme is most likely a legacy pre-Online Store 2.0 theme, which cannot render app embeds or app blocks. Upgrading the theme, or moving to a current one, is the only route.

Best for: Any merchant whose rule is saved and active but whose product page shows nothing.

Applies to: Shopify Online Store 2.0 themes, Dawn and Dawn-derived themes
